US states implementing age verification laws for adult content have triggered a surge in VPN usage. VPNs, typically used in heavily censored countries, are now in high demand to bypass these restrictions. VPNMentor reported that Florida saw a staggering 1,150% surge in VPN demand within the first few hours of the law’s enactment. Other states have also witnessed a similar uptick. For instance, when Pornhub blocked Utah users, VPN demand spiked by 967%. Similarly, Texas saw a 234% rise in VPN usage after it passed its own adult-site-related age restrictions last year. As of now, nearly 139 million US residents live in states where age verification laws targeting adult entertainment websites are in effect, according to TechDirt.
