When assuring that someone meets the age threshold to access a service, companies do not necessarily need to know what a person’s age is – just that they are over or under the prescribed age. For example if companies cannot process the data of someone under the age of 18 without parental consent (like it is in India) all they need to do is figure out whether or not someone is in the under 18 group or over 18 group, not whether they are 24 or 45.
