Cyprus has initiated applications for its new National Electronic Identity (eID) system, known as IDMe.cy, marking a significant step in the country’s digital transformation efforts. The application process opened today, and is available to Cypriot citizens aged 18 and above who possess a Biometric Identity Card. The implementation of this national digital ID system represents part of Cyprus’s broader strategy to align with the European Union’s eIDAS regulations, which establish standards for electronic identification and trust services across the EU. The system is designed to be fully compatible with the upcoming European Digital Identity Wallet framework, enabling cross-border identity verification and secure access to public services throughout the EU.
