This advances the EU’s digital strategy, which requires member states to implement digital identity wallets by 2026, following the European Commission’s adoption of technical standards for cross-border digital identity wallets. The company’s IT division, T-Systems, has also won contracts to provide digital identities for German health insurers AOK and Barmer, serving more than 50 percent of Germany’s statutory health insurance recipients. This development comes after the release of new payment integration specifications by the EU Digital Wallet Consortium, showing ongoing progress in the EU’s digital identity infrastructure development.
