Microsoft has developed the first ever quantum chip, shortening the timeframe for when quantum computers will break exiting encryption, including that of Reusable Verifiable Identity Credentials. Malicious actors are also believed to be already stockpiling encrypted data in anticipation of quantum technology to mature, in what are known as ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ attacks.
